24 hours in the Air

I’m no novice to flying, but I was very nervous about 24 plus hours in multiple planes to get from Houston, Texas to Phuket Thailand. It wasn’t the plane ride I was worried about. It was sitting still for a really long time and keeping my sanity. Three hours in a plane I can do standing on my head. Sitting in a meeting for more than 45 minutes I’m not very good at. I had never been on a plane that is quipped for long term travel so I didn’t know what to expect. The airline I flew was Singapore Air Economy Class. This is my experience on my flight. I can’t speak for other airlines yet.

First decision was where to sit: Window or Isle.

If you sit in an isle seat you don’t have to wake anyone up when you have to go to the bathroom and you can stretch your legs in the isle.

If you take a window seat you have to wake up the two sleeping people beside you every time you need to get up.

I went with the window. I figure I’d rather wake someone else up than have them waking me up. I also like to take pictures on takeoff and landing. The picture at the top of this post is of Aruba as we were descending. I have gotten some really cool shots this way. The person in the isle didn’t get pictures like that.

Travel to Thailand (28)Next, what types of entertainment to take with me:

I opted for a book instead of my Kindle, because I didn’t know if I would be able to charge the Kindle when in the air and I put a couple movies on my laptop.

I was very excited to see chargers for all of my electronic devices and all the movies were free. I only read one chapter of the book and never pulled the laptop out.

Travel to Thailand (27)Am I going to go hungry:

You can take snacks through airport security as long as they aren’t liquid. I didn’t know how often they would feed us so I brought some snacks and put them in zip lock baggies. I didn’t need them. It seemed like they fed us the whole time. Meals, Snacks, Fruit, and even Ice Cream. There was more than enough to keep even the pickiest of eaters happy and full.

Comforts of Home:

There were pillows and fleece blankets in all the seats when we boarded the plane. The thick ones that you curl up on the couch with.

They also passed out a little bag with a toothbrush, a tiny tube of toothpaste and a pair of socks.

After 24 hours of travel I was exhausted, but I made it! I didn’t even mind that at the end of my vacation I had to repeat the process.
